Session 1: Natural Disaster Resilient Design and Construction

Moderator

Dr. Chien Kuo CHIU

Distinguished Professor and Chairman, Dept. of Civil and Construction Engineering, NTUST

Educational Background

Ph.D. The University of Tokyo

Professional Experience

Prof. CHIU got his Ph.D. from The University of Tokyo in Japan. Currently, Prof. CHIU is the chairman of Dept. of Civil and Construction Engineering in Taiwan TECH. He is also the former Chairman of Chinese Society of Structural Engineering in Taiwan and Associate Coordinator of Department of Natural Sciences and Sustainable Development in NSTC, Taiwan. His main research is focused on the life-cycle assessment methods of seismic performance and durability for reinforced concrete structures. He has published more than 80 papers in the international journals. Recently, he helped the government to publish a guidebook related to the durability assessment technology of RC building structures in Taiwan. Additionally, he also developed new repair/retrofit materials to recover their functionality or service life under the multi-hazardous environment.
